During the first and second week after Easter, His grace Bishop Jovan of Lipljan, coordinator of the Committee for Jasenovac of the Holy Assembly of Bishops, went in his working visit to the United States of America. Besides the participation of the eleventh marking of the Memorial Day of Jasenovac in New York City, on April 21-22, 2012 which he attended with the blessing of Holy Synod of Bishops, Bishop Jovan had many activities on improvement of the work of the Committee for Jasenovac and its international connections and activities.
On Thurdsday, April 19 Bishop Jovan participated at the annual conference of the Association for the Study of the Nationalities at the Columbia University in New York City, which the Director General is Dr Gordon N. Bardosh.
On Wednesday, April 24, 2012 Bishop Jovan of Lipljan visited the Memorial U.S .Museum of Holocaust in Washington, and on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 he had a meeting with Mr Arthur Berger, Mrs Diana Saltzman, Dr Steven Sage and many associates of the Museum, while at the State Department he met with the ambassador Douglas Davidson, in charge of the issues of the holocaust and his associate Mrs. Susan Sandler.
On Thursday, April 26, 2012 Bishop Jovan in New York City met with Rabi Arthur Schneier, founder of the profound foundation the Apeal of Conscience, which was involved a lot in the issues of the Balkan crisis in the 90s, and after that he met at the Mission of the Republic of Serbia in the United Nations with Mrs. Kimberly Man who leads the UN Holocaust department.
At all meetings one spoke about the improvement of the marking of the Jasenovac Memorial Day in New York City, which have last for eleven years.
Also one spoke on the improvement of the research on suffering in the Second World War on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, since in our region there is neither competent academic programme, nor all the required archives and archive materials are available. So it is advisable that the great institutions cooperate among themselves not only in the region but beyond as well.
At these meetings also Mrs. Ivana Bartulovic from the Belgrade Open School participated, as the associate of the Committee for Jasenovac.
During the visit to the United States, Bishop of Lipljan had a support from the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Republic of Serbia, the Mission at the UN and the General Consulate in New York City. Also the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Mitar Kujundzic showed hospitality by organizing the dinner with the prominents Serbs of New York.
