INAPPROPRIATE FOR SERBIAN CHILDREN TO HOLIDAY IN SERBIAN KILLING GROUNDS
BELGRADE, August 14 /SRNA/ - The director of the Veritas Documentation Centre, Savo Strbac, told SRNA that it is inappropriate for children – athletes from Serbia – to holiday in the former Lora death camp in Split, where 1008 Serbs were tortured and 70 were killed in the most heinous ways from 1992 to 1998.
Strbac called hypocritical the explanation of the organiser of the Youth Sports Games in Split, Zdravko Maric, that “the past belongs to the past,” that “one should turn to the future” and that it is bad that children will now, because of their parents’ “pointless” sensibilities, be transferred to the hotel in Zagreb.
He said that the wounds from the past war are still too fresh and that the Serbian Ministry for the Youth and Sports should explain how such an “omission” could happen consistently for the past four years.
Strbac said that the methods of torture in the Lora prison camp border on insanity and to illustrate his claim he said that imprisoned Serbs were connected to electricity by their genitals, that live frogs were put in their mouths, which, if the frog were to die, would prompt camp personnel to beat the offender to death.
He said that of the 70 Serbs killed in Lora, half are still listed as missing, and that it is not impossible that a grandchild or a close relative to those killed Serbs holidayed in recent years at Lora.
Strbac said that every patriotic-minded Serb should choose a destination for his holiday where he will be welcome, and Croatia is certainly not such a place.
He said that the only Serbs who can be excused for going there are those expelled from Croatia who are going there in order to try to “preserve what little of theirs” there still remains.
The best ranked players of mini football should have left for Split on August 19 under the auspices of Serbian Sports Games where they were to be housed in the complex of the former Lora prison camp.
Parents who found out where children are to be housed, alarmed the Serbian public and said that there is no way they will let their children go for such a “holiday” even though they had nothing against sending them to Split.
