Pope will not visit Jasenovac until truth is established

Бенедикт

Belgrade archbishop Stanislav Hocevar has stated that the Pope will not visit Jasenovac as long as the Serbian and Croatian sides do not establish undisputed truth about that concentration camp and put a historical end to that horror.

It is unrealistic to expect the Holy Father to be visiting Jasenovac while two sides are using it for mutual accusations, instead of seeking the undeniable truth, explained Hocevar.

With regards to the stance of metropolitan of Zagreb Jovan that Pope’s visit to Serbia would be beneficial for Serbia, but that the head of the Catholic Church would have first to bow to the souls of the victims in Jasenovac, just like he did in Auschwitz when visiting Poland, archbishop Hocevar says that he cannot understand why is it stressed so much. First, the Catholic Church has emphasized several times that mutual forgiveness and reconciliation are important, he pointed, and underlined that Pope John Paul II had asked in Rome, in 2000, for the forgiveness for all harm that Catholics had done in any country, on any continent, to anybody.
